Fertility Camp

Gyalshing,March18: Sikkim Livestock Development Board under AH&VS Department, Govt of Sikkim organised a day long awareness and fertility camp at Gerethang and Chumbung, Gyalshing district which falls under aspirational district on 15th and 16 th March 2024 respectively.The camps were organised under a Pan India Project “Pashudhan Jagriti Abhiyan” sponsored by Department of Animal Husbandry& Dairying,Govt of India.The camps were organised under the direction of Additional Director Gyalshing Dr Narad Mani Cintury, Additional Director cum CEO(SLDB),Dr. Karma Doma Bhutia.

The camp organised at Gerethang was attended by Panchayat President (Gerethang GPU),Panchayat members (Gerethang and Arithang GPUs),Joint Director(SLDB)Dr Prabina Lama ,Veterinary Officers Dr Mikit Lepcha and Dr Pranisha Chettri and farmers from Gerethang GPU.

Dr Prabina Lama explained the purpose of the programme and emphasised on the importance of adopting improved breeding and feeding practices in order to increase the milk yield which would help to double farmer’s income.She also emphasised on the needy to feed correct nutrition in order to achieve maximum production potential.The other two resource persons Dr Mikit Lepcha and Dr Pranisha Chettri spoke on the diseases affecting livestock and adopting good managemental practices.The programme concluded with words of wisdom from Panchayat President(Gerethang GPU),panchayat member(Arithang GPU)and vote of thanks by Mr Amber Bishwakarma (Livestock Assistant).

The next camp organised at Chumbung was attended by Joint Director (SLDB)Dr Prabina Lama Deputy Director (Gyalshing DVH),Dr Pramada Gurung Assistant Livestock inspector ,Mr Arjun Chettri and farmers of Chumbung village.The programme commenced with a welcome speech by Mr Arjun Chettri.Dr Pramada Gurung addressed the gathering with the latest emerging diseases that has been prevalent in the area of late along with mitigation strategy of the same.The farmers were then addressed by Dr Prabina Lama regarding various upgradation of breeding technologies such as usage of sex sorted semen,nutrition of animals,hygiene practices of animals etc which would help to double farmer’s income.Awareness was also made to the farmers regarding infertility and the reasons which might be causing it in the field such as sexually transmitted diseases ,nutritional deficiency ,worm overload etc and ways to overcome it by proper approach to the cause.The programme concluded with interaction between farmers and departmental officials regarding prevalent diseases and ways to tackle it and other animal related problems.

The farmers present in both the camps were distributed mineral supplements, dewormer,calcium supplements etc which were provided by Indian Immunological Limited.
